My passion for coaching and mentoring others started more than a decade ago when I was part of the financial industry. I had a couple of the best managers who mentored and coached me through so many experiences, challenging me to leave my comfort zone and empowering me to grow. I loved their leadership style. If I made a mistake, it was a learning experience, as part of a team there were no weaknesses – there were opportunities. I loved the way additional projects were framed as empowerment-stretched opportunities. The sales goals were not imposed as I had to sell products, it was about getting to know the customers and offering them products and services to make their financial journeys better. My managers managed sales goals of millions of dollars indirectly, everything through coaching and mentoring strategies.
Then, my passion became more and more apparent when I pursued some of my certificate programs and through the completion of adult learning education strategies professional development programs. I studied the way adults learn and engage. I was also exposed to studying the way young children learn, and how resilient they are. However, something happens when they are taught to follow instructions, and work quietly without collaboration, the natural leadership and creative talents of kids are transformed. The landscape of career development for teenagers and adults is impacted if you add the insecurities of being a student of color, educational opportunities inequities, family dynamics, higher education experiences, peer pressure, and other factors.
Since I am passionate about this work, I continue to keep these studies as part of my research to build empowering and impactful programing and spaces to allow professionals to pursue their dreams and aspirations. Are the systems not allowing us to retain our creativity, enhancing our talents and pushing us to conformity and survival mode? I use data, studies, information from all my collective certifications and trainings, along with coaching, empowering, and healing practices, to equip professionals with the tools and resources necessary to make the necessary career transitions, pivots, and readjustments. We need to recondition our belief system and stop doubting ourselves.
